Inverters, Battery Chargers and Isolators

The electrical system is the beating heart of every cruise. A battery charger must be correctly sized relative to the total capacity of the battery bank, typically between 10% and 20% of the amp-hour (Ah) value. If the output is too low, charging times become excessive; if too high, you risk overheating the batteries. For the inverter, assess the peak current draw of your equipment: for computers or sensitive instrumentation, always use pure sine wave models to prevent interference or malfunctions. Smart management through a battery isolator or voltage-sensitive relay keeps the service batteries charged without draining the starting battery. Before installing, check available space: power electronics generate heat and need well-ventilated compartments. Our pre-sales technical support helps you verify electrical compatibility and provides clear ETAs on deliveries, ensuring the part arrives when you need it for your onboard work.

What to check before buying

Follow these technical points to avoid system errors:

• Verify your system's nominal voltage (12V or 24V) and the total bank capacity in Ah.
• Calculate the total wattage of the devices you need to power in order to size the inverter.
• Choose pure sine wave inverters to protect advanced electronic instrumentation.
• Confirm that the battery charger offers charging profiles compatible with your batteries (AGM, Gel, or Lithium).

Why pure sine wave?

Modern electronic equipment requires a pure sine wave to operate correctly. A modified wave can cause hum, overheating, or permanent failure of navigation instrumentation.

What is a battery isolator?

A battery isolator distributes the energy produced by the alternator or battery charger across two or more separate battery banks. It prevents the service batteries from discharging the battery dedicated to engine starting.

How do I correctly size a battery charger?

A practical rule of thumb is that the charging current should be approximately 10-20% of the total battery bank capacity expressed in Ah. A value that is too low extends charging times, while one that is too high can overheat the batteries.
