Replacement starts with reading the data stamped on the body of the old spring. If the markings are illegible, measure the center-to-center distance between the mounting holes, both in the closed and extended position, to determine the piston stroke.

  • Check the type of end fittings, typically eye-end or ball-joint.
  • Favor stainless steel components for areas exposed to marine spray.

What happens if the Newtons exceed what is needed?

Excessive force stresses the anchor points and hinges, leading to cracks in the gelcoat or failure of the mounting brackets. Always stay within the original thrust rating.

Can a gas spring be repaired?

Gas springs are sealed components containing high-pressure nitrogen. Once the seal fails or gas escapes, the component must be replaced with a new unit.

How do you protect actuators?

In addition to using AISI 316 steel, periodically rinse the rod with fresh water and apply a light coat of silicone spray, avoiding heavy greases that attract dirt.
