Sailing Hardware

Deck hardware for a sailboat leaves no room for improvisation. Every block, turning block, or track car is subject to dynamic loads that vary with sail area and weather conditions. Choosing an undersized component risks compromising the boat's handling at critical moments. When evaluating a purchase, always verify the construction material, the type of bearings, and the declared maximum working load. At Nautiba we approach every request with a technical eye. We know that a composite block is not installed the same way as one in AISI 316 stainless steel, and that the differences between safe working load and breaking load are critical in a maneuver. Our job is to make sure the part is right for your sail plan and the type of lines you use. Talk to us if you have doubts about the compatibility of an accessory with your existing hardware. Managing sheets and halyards depends on proper maintenance of cars and rope clutches. Worn hardware increases friction, wears out lines, and makes every maneuver a struggle. Check the sheaves periodically: if you notice excessive play or signs of corrosion, it is time to act.

Criteria for Choosing Hardware

Follow these steps to avoid wrong purchases: verify the safe working load (SWL) in relation to sail area and displacement. Check compatibility between line diameter and sheave groove to prevent jamming. Favor corrosion-resistant materials like AISI 316 stainless steel for structural parts. Consider the fastening type: inadequate bolts can negate the strength of the component.

How do I choose the right block?

The choice depends on the maximum working load and the sheet diameter. A ball-bearing block is useful for dynamic maneuvers, while a friction block suits high static loads.

Do I have to replace the entire assembly if one component breaks?

Often not. Many manufacturers offer specific spare parts such as cheeks, sheaves, or pins. Consider, however, whether the overall wear level justifies repair or full replacement.

How do I verify compatibility with my boat?

Before ordering, measure the bolt spacing on existing fittings and the line diameter. If you have doubts, contact our technical support with the details of your rig.
